Where to Hear Live Music Near East 62nd Street This Summer (Starting With Free Shows in Central Park)

Quick answer
The easiest live music near East 62nd Street is Central Park SummerStage at Rumsey Playfield, a roughly 15-minute walk up into the park, where most shows are free. The 2026 summer season runs June into August with acts like SHABAKA, Kokoroko, and Laurie Anderson on the calendar. Closer to home, the Upper East Side has piano bars and music nights at spots like Melody's Piano Bar on Lexington and The Penrose on 2nd Avenue. Check each show's date before you go, since lineups and free-vs-ticketed status change week to week.

Two guests this week asked the same thing: what's playing nearby? So here's where we actually send people for live music when they're staying with us on East 62nd Street.
The short version: in summer, walk up into Central Park. SummerStage runs at Rumsey Playfield all season and most shows are free, which makes it the easiest night out from here. When the weather turns or you want something closer and indoors, the Upper East Side has a couple of real music rooms a short walk away. None of this is on-site, to be clear, we don't have a venue in the building. These are the neighborhood spots we'd point a friend toward.
One rule for all of it: check the date and price before you go. SummerStage lineups change weekly and some shows are ticketed benefits, and the smaller bars shift their music nights around private events.
