Does The Sixty Two have a rooftop?
No, we don't have a rooftop. There's no rooftop bar, no shared terrace, no amenity deck. We get asked this a lot, so we want to be straight with you before you book: The Sixty Two is an apartment-style stay, not a full-service hotel with a lobby scene. What you get instead is your own unit on East 62nd Street with your own front door. No lobby, no key card, just your own front door.
We think that's the better trade for most people who stay with us. You're not paying for a rooftop you'll visit once. You're getting a real apartment in a quiet Lenox Hill block, and you can come and go as you please.
Is there a gym in the building?
No, there's no gym in the building either. We don't have a fitness room or a pool. Again, this is the apartment model: we kept the building simple and put everything into the units themselves.
The good news is that the Upper East Side is stacked with gyms, and a few of them are a short walk from our front door and sell single-day passes. You don't need a membership to get a workout in during your stay.
Gyms near East 62nd Street that take drop-ins
Here's where we'd point you, all within a few blocks:
- Crunch Fitness, East 66th Street. About a four to five minute walk north. Crunch offers a one-day pass, and the 66th Street location is the closest full gym to us. Good for a straightforward lifting and cardio session.
- Equinox East 63rd Street, 817 Lexington Avenue. This is Equinox's Upper East Side flagship, roughly a five to seven minute walk. It's the higher-end option with a fuller class schedule. Call ahead about a day pass, since drop-in pricing varies.
- Barry's, East 64th Street. A few minutes north if you want a coached class rather than a solo session. Book the class online before you come, because slots fill up.
Walk times are honest estimates from our door at 341 East 62nd Street. The blocks up Lexington and Third are flat and easy, so none of these is a real hike.
So what does the building actually give you?
A full apartment. You'll have your own kitchen and your own space rather than a hotel room, which is the whole point of staying here. Stay three nights or three weeks, it's your apartment. We chose everything in here ourselves, from the linens to the kitchen, so it feels like a home you happen to be borrowing rather than a room you're renting.
If you want the rooftop-and-cocktails kind of trip, a big hotel will serve you better, and we'll say so honestly. If you want a quiet base on one of Midtown's best blocks where you can cook your own breakfast and walk to Central Park in about eight minutes, that's exactly what we built.
A note on getting your steps in
If a gym isn't your thing, Central Park is about an eight minute walk west through the quiet blocks, and the reservoir loop and the bridle paths are right there for a run or a long walk. Carl Schurz Park along the East River is another easy option if you'd rather run with a water view. Between the park and the gyms, you won't have any trouble staying moving while you're here.
Text me anytime if you want a specific recommendation for the kind of workout you're after. I'm a real person and happy to point you to the right door.
