The Upper East Side is the museum capital of New York, and from East 62nd Street most of them are a walk, not a subway ride. The Frick Collection is closest, about ten minutes up Fifth. The Met is around 20 minutes north at 82nd, the Guggenheim at 89th, and Museum Mile runs the Fifth Avenue edge of Central Park all the way up. If you only do one, make it the Frick for the size and the Met for the sheer scope.
